Joan Carr has more than three decades of experience in politics, including 14 years as a reporter and 18 years working in the United States Senate. Joan is currently chief of staff to U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, and she was previously chief of staff to U.S. Senator Zell Miller. She has the rare distinction of having been a chief to both a Democrat and a Republican.
Joan previously worked as a newspaper reporter, mostly at the Associated Press. She covered 13 sessions of the General Assembly, including covering Zell Miller while he was Governor and Johnny Isakson when he served in the Legislature. She jokes that both of them later hired her despite the fact that she had covered them as a reporter.
Joan is married to Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and they have two daughters – a rising senior at the University of Georgia and a rising 9th grader at Marist.
